Introducing Me

Hi! I am Emma Shipley. I am from a suburban town in northern New Jersey. I loved growing up in northern New Jersey, I felt I was never too far from an thing I could want. Its just an hour drive to the beach, about 45 minutes to the mountains, and a 30 minute train ride into New York city.

For college I decided to try something new and moved 800 miles from home to Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina. Clemson is much different from New Jersey; people walk slower, theres a Chick-Fil-A on every corner, and everyone has a bit of a crazy obsession with football. However, after a few months of adjustment and meeting some of my favorite people in the world, Clemson became my second home.

At Clemson, I study Communication with a minor in film studies. Although I am unsure what exactly I want to do, I love to be creative, write, tell stories, plan events, and work with people. Since starting college I have had two summer internships. The first was for a public relations firm in New York City called BPCM. BPCM specialized in luxury fashion, beauty, travel, wine and spirits. It was actually here that my journey to Barcelona began. While interning I became close friends with a girl who had just returned from her semester with CEA in Barcelona. As we worked on projects she would always talk about how amazing her experience was and that I needed to go.

When I arrived in Barcelona I was honestly terrified. Unfortunately almost none of my close friends from school decided to study abroad so I hopped on the plane at Newark airport alone. Not only did I have to start a new school in a new country, but I had to find all new friends. Luckily, almost everyone I have met so far has been extremely friendly and I found a new group of friends within the first few days. Its only been a week and we’ve already done so much together. We’ve done everything from exploring the city, grabbing brunch, checking out clubs, and even ordering pizza and watching re-runs of Glee in bed.

Although everything still feels so new, I think I am finally beginning to settle into my new home. I look forward to learning new things about myself and the world around me over the next four months in beautiful Barcelona.
